Two Campaign New Cambridge Two CD to be released Gordon Bell, husband of Ruth Wyner,is releasing a CD of two protest songs about the Cambridge Two. The first live performance will be at Strawberry Fair in Cambridge on Saturday 3rd June 2000. Gordon Bell joined with local professional musicians to form a band called 'Not Guilty' and produce the songs. One is an up-tempo ballad called 'The Ballad Of Ruth And John', the second is called 'Walking Into The Blues. The band will be performing both songs live, for the first time at the Wigwam, Strawberry Fair in Cambridge on Saturday 2nd June 2000. Gordon Bell said: 'Music is how we got together. When we met in 1971, I was an acoustic guitar player and she wrote poetry, which I put to music, and we formed a band and played for four years. Then Ruth started volunteering in a church coffee bar to help the homeless, and later began working at a night shelter. Ruth had always expressed her feelings in poems. Her feeling of frustration for herself and John and the homeless come out brilliantly in these songs.' 'Not Guilty' was formed after the convictions of Ruth Wyner and John Brock, and preformed its first benefit gig at Cambridge Red Studios in May 1999. 'Not Guilty' includes Cath Coombs, formerly of 'Whiskey Before Breakfast'/'Though Gang' on vocals and cello. Cath also runs voice workshops at Chesterton and Manor Community Colleges. Karl Ferre, bass and vocals, is formerly of 'Melon Farmer'. Andy Williamson on drums, also plays with 'The Straw B's'. Denis Hayes, outreach worker for Wintercomfort for the Homeless, plays an Irish flatback bouzouki. Lawrence Hobson, a homeless project worker, plays rhythm guitar, and Gordon Bell, who also works for the homeless, is on guitar and vocals. Copies
of the CD can be purchased for £3 (excl p&p) £4 (incl. p&p) from the Cambridge
Two Campaign, 6 Hertford Street, Cambridge Telephone: 01223 513 033.
